Size
A single file should stay under 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed per common engine limits. Split if you exceed that.
Frequently asked
Will this crawl my website?
No. Supply the URLs yourself.
Do I need lastmod on every row?
Optional. Stale lastmod values can be worse than omitting them.
Is priority still useful?
Most engines ignore it. Leave the default if you are unsure.
Can I make a sitemap index?
Not on this page. Build several urlsets, then write an index by hand.
Does this submit to Search Console?
No.
